The Single Page Adventure With The Herald

The Herald Single Adventure

My ol’ buddy just sent me yet another batch of old art! A lot of it was Small Press stuff with a few of our Independent pieces mixed in. Here’s one of them. This little promo was one Freazie wrote, penciled, inked and lettered all by himself from 1989.

Now, neither Freazie nor I were all that great at hand lettering. That’s why we always had our ace letterer Billy Leavell handling the job on every Legacy book. So I’m looking at this scan in PhotoShop and I’m thinking, “Ya know I’ve got those Blambot fonts I’ve been wanting to try out…and while I’m at it why not use some of those new coloring techniques I’ve been working on?” So one thing lead to another and… voila! Something old is now something new!

Remember to click the image to see a larger view.

Be sure to check out Sunday’s comic book posts for Project: New Man and Humants’! Rest Up! CU2morrow ;-)

Humants

• Updates Online DAILY - Humants #2! - The lead story in Legacy Comics 1992 Black and White 48 page Independent Comic: Humants!

Five Lakes Megalopolis: The appearance of unusual individuals wielding supernatural powers called Humants was nothing, it seems, compared to the arrival of their sworn enemy, the Dark Lord of the Hecati, Megeddon! With his chief servant, the powerhouse called Devastax, he plans not to rule the world, but rather to destroy it! First, however, they must get by The Herald, Magistar, and Man Ark! The Herald attempts to administer the judgment called The Experience which Omni Spawn told him last issue was his destiny to perform. His first guinea pig, Mageddon, is none to happy about it!

Meanwhile Krystal McCliston, investigative reporter for the TV show A Cyrstal View, tries to capture all of it on video which may be easier said than done amongst the falling debris.

We meet the family Rosebud of Rosebud Diversified Financial and in particular Janeta who will soon meet Omni Spawn.

Last but not least we meet a new villain: The Tower!

Written,  and drawn  by Freazie White, Jr., embellishment by Mark Poe and featuring awesome lettering by Billy Leavell.

Project: New Man

• Updates Online DAILY - Project: New Man #3! - The Full Length back-up feature from Legacy Comics 1991 Black and White 48 page Independent Comic Humants #2 and never before published material!

The tale we call The Haunted Man began late one night in Project: New Man #1. While on patrol in the city of New Harbour, New Man overheard the aimless braggadocio conversation of congregated street hoods. The name Ebenezer Baal had been at the center of the conversation. It was an alias of one incredibly elusive crime lord, whose true identity remained a mystery.

New Man made his way to the warehouse and was met by an ambush. Better than a dozen heavily armed men had found New Man’s Unified Field to be more than a match for their armament, alas, Baal himself had managed to escape.

A young costumed adventurer called Bearcat arriving on the scene, spots Baal’s timely exit and follows Baal to his hideout. Being somewhat new to the heroing business, the ofttimes presumptuous Bearcat soon finds himself face to face with Cyber-Tech, a cybernetic lackey of Baal’s.  Cyber-Tech holds a grudge against the Thunderhawks (New Man’s trainers) and is intent on their destruction. No one, not even Bearcat or New Man, will stand in the way of the cyborg’s goals!

Written by Freazie White, Jr. with art by Nathan Massengill, Mark Poe & Christopher Torres. Expert lettering by Billy Leavell.

Project: New Man is a partly secret joint venture of the U.S. Government and the Fortress Foundation, a private sector, non-profit, philanthropic organization dedicated to public defense and scientific research. Dave has the dual role of being part of the research project and at the same time being groomed by the Government as a public protector in the Five Lakes Megalopolis area of New Harbour.

Humants

• Updates Online DAILY - Humants #2! - The lead story in Legacy Comics 1992 Black and White 48 page Independent Comic: Humants!

The Humants, The Herald, Magistar, and Man Ark are introduced to and must enter into deadly battle with Megeddon, the Dark Lord of the Hecati and his chief servant, the powerhouse called Devastax! Their goal: no less than total world destruction! The Herald is intent on stopping them as he administers the judgment called The Experience which he recently found out from Omni Spawn is his destiny to perform. Mageddon, is not very cooperative!

Krystal McCliston, investigative reporter for the TV show A Cyrstal View, tries to capture the action on video while dodging falling debris. This, it turns out, is good practice in survival when she later comfronts a new villain: The Tower!

Introducing also in this issue Janeta Rosebud of Rosebud Diversified Financial who will soon meet Omni Spawn and things will never again be the same!

Written,  and drawn  by Freazie White, Jr., embellishment by Mark Poe and featuring awesome lettering by Billy Leavell.

The Humants are by no means mutants by another name. The series, is about a loose-knit band of characters from diverse walks of life who have been summoned to partake of an incredible power called Khosmotic. This enigmatic force re-creates its chosen, not mutates, and gradually conforms them into its own image. Thus it’s chosen become Khosmotic Warriors. They are the appointed of the Khosmotic Conjunction. The team’s base of operations is in the in the Five Lakes Megalopolis area and more specifically Municipal City.

Humants 3 Page 1 Panel 2Humants #3: Omni Spawn meets with Janeta Rosebud and as a result, The Savage Chaosta makes her Humants debut!

Freazie White, Jr. once again does his usual great job penciling and scripting this issue. He had a plethora of inkers helping out with the art. Ralph Ellis Miley, who was one of our fraternity brothers from Alpha Omega, did lend a hand and brush. He’s someone you may see more work from in the coming months on other projects. Billy Leavell, while doing his usual legendary lettering, also assisted with some inking on a few pages as well. Freazie and I, Mark Poe, both did  a little inking as usual. I think Christopher Torres may have helped out on some of the backgrounds also, now that I look through the pages. I will have to check on that and add him to the credits if he did. In spite of all the helping hands this issue’s art actually comes off looking very uniform, that is, the style of art is consistent throughout the issue.

One last note on this page: That background with the wall of graffiti behind Omnispawn and Janeta, if my memory is correct, I did while we were sitting at the tables of one of the conventions we were guests with. I think some of the fans attending got their names enshrined on it!

Project New Man # 3: continues the epic battle between Cyber-Tech and New Man! Dave looks like he’s starting to lose ground to the fury of the mad cyborgs attack! But the battle isn’t over yet, The Thunder Hawks may be the cavalry charging to Dave’s rescue in this one! They will try anyway!

Tomorrow we’ll find out some more revelations concerning Cyber-Tech and his origin which will show he has strong ties to… Ah, let’s wait until then to find out. I don’t want to spoil the plot for you. ;-)

MCG New Features & Legacy Comics Thursday Updates

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Humants 3 Page 2 Close UpRight now in Humants #3: Page 2 is a great splash page Freazie did of Chaosta immediately after her empowerment through Khosmotic Renewal by Omnispawn.

This is another page I inked on our convention tour in the summer of 1991. I actually started it at Freazies house. Since we live several states apart, I had made the long drive up to Michigan and had the privilege of living with Freazie and his wife, Angela and the kids for about 6 weeks while we trekked all over the Northeastern States to one convention after another. We had some good times then! We did a lot of art, a lot of plotting and logged a lot of miles on my ol’ beat up ‘85 Chevy Cavalier! :-)

And over in Project New Man # 3: When things look like they are darkest, that’s often when something happens to turn the tide. He’s heard that kind of thing all his life. At one time David “Killer” Kane would have mocked the chances of miraculous last minute saves. More likely, he would have acknowledged, if anything could go wrong it would! His Special Forces training in ‘Nam, allowed him to only trust in his own abilities and training, never on any one else and certainly not in anything remotely resembling hope or faith. But that was before David “Killer” Kane was transformed into New Man. Since that time he has lived in a state of amazing events he would never imagined in his wildest dreams!

New Man 3 Pg 28 Panel 2

Okay, I know I said today, but it’s really tomorrow we’ll find out some more revelations concerning Cyber-Tech and his origin which will show he has strong ties to… but that’s for tomorrow’s update. For real this time! Really. Sorry I jumped the gun yesterday. :-(

Did you notice the new Mighty Mega Checklist feature in the left sidebar? It’s a handy guide to all the issues we have posted so far on MCG! We’ll update our checklist every time we add a title so you will have those handy to go right to an issue you missed, or to go back to a page to refresh your memory on a current plot twist, or… GULP!.. to check up on how well we have done on our continuity!  If you are a new reader, well then! You are all set, web wayfarer! Just click on the cover or title link to go to our first book and get caught up! We have them in order from our first postings, at the bottom of the list, to the current comic updating daily, at the top of the list. But that’s not all. Yep, you guessed it, there’s more! We’ll be adding a lot of New Features in the next month to help you navigate our pages easier! Stay tuned.

Legacy Comics Friday Updates, but NO WEEKEND UPDATES!

Friday, September 19th, 2008

New Man 3 Pg 29 Panel 3

No MCG, Project: New Man, or Humants updates this weekend. We’ve got some maintenance to do on the sites. Next week: we’ll wrap up Project: New Man #3 and get ready to start the conclusion to The Haunted Man in Project: New Man #4!

Project New Man # 3: So the battle between New Man and the Thunder Hawks with Cyber-Tech is over, and the mad cyborg is subdued thanks to the inventiveness of Emmanual Reyes, a.k.a. Bearcat, and Thomas “Tom Thumb” McBride, along with the resourcefulness of Jonathan Thunderstorm.

Ah, but that’s not the end of the story. Now we have learned some interesting clues to where the tech for the cyborg came from. It’s a link that will eventually have the paths of New Man and the Thunder Hawks cross with that of Omnispawn and the Humants! Check out today’s update to see what I’m talking about.

Humants #3: We met Janeta Rosebud last issue and right off the bat I’m sure you saw the same thing I did. She’s a bit of a rebel! But having met her Dad and sister last issue as well, it’s not hard to see why. Nothing is harder on the rebel than having a strong father who really cares for her, albeit with some selfish motives of his own, and tries to shelter her. In turn the father’s attitude just fuels her ambition to get out on her own and prove herself, to be as strong, as independent and in short to be just like the authority she’s rebelling against! Talk about a paradox!Humants 3 Page 3 Panel 1 Close Up

So, okay, here we have little happy, go, lucky Janeta, the rebel, wanting desperately to have the power to stand up and prove herself, and suddenly, un-expectantly she has more than she ever dreamed possible! Whew! Hang on, folks, this could be a wild ride!

Have good weekend! :-)

New Man 3 Pg 30 Panel 2

Welcome back! Glad you could join us again! Let’s see what’s happening in today’s comics updates!

Project New Man # 3:

Today’s page is the last of this chapter of The Haunted Man. Dave and the Thunder Hawks ponder Cyber-Tech’s links to Ebeneezer Baal and Devlin Robotics. It’s beginning to look like there is much more to this than New Man just tracking a clever crime lord.

We have a couple special pages and the back covers coming up then next week on to Project: New Man #4!

Humants #3:

Janeta Rosebud muses over the transformation she has experienced as she searches for the other Humants, who she has been told by Omnispawn to join up with.

In her efforts she is distracted and not being used to having super powers…well, hurry on over and check it out to see what happens to our newest Humant.

Well, we did not get as much done over the weekend as we had hoped. There were some things which came up that were not in the plan. So we adjust and move on. Hope yours went easier! But it’s a new week and so we begin again!

We may have to take off another weekend or 2 to get caught up. MCG usually updates 7 days a week, even though most other web comics only update 5 or 6 days every week. There is a lot of work in the background to maintain the sites and keep the new pages coming out regularly. We would like your comments on the frequency of the strip. Is 7 days a week just right, too much or GULP!…not enough? Let us know. You can leave a comment on this article or go to the Left Sidebar down to the Mega Comics Group Wall and leave a comment. If you had prefer to send us an email click on the MCG Contact link at the top of this page and use the form located on that page. We appreciate your support and look forward to hearing from you!
