Friday, April 12th, 2019Welcome to Friday’s Mega Comics Group Updates!
Comic Book History: The Eight Eras
Comic Book Historians presents the DocuSeries # 1: The Eight Ages of Comic Books over on YouTube. This is a long running series which documents the history of comic books as the name of the group suggests. Here, via the magic of the World Wide Web, we have not only the first but the second episode of the series as well…
And now: Comic Book Historians DocuSeries # 2: 1957 Atlas Implosion, Birth of Marvel Age, Spidey and FF. A lot of great info on our favorite era of comic book history…
DC & Marvel Covers 1962

Remember this first meeting of DC and Marvel characters in the sizzling sixties? No? Well, that’s because it never happened! 😀 That’s right this is a FAKE comic. We have everything else fake in media these days, so why not comics too? 😉 We wanted a bit of art to highlight our little blast from the past feature here, so we found several Justice League of America and Avengers cover jpegs on the web and using Photoshop, hastily composited a rough example of what could have been and eventually was, comics company crossovers!
Here’s a look at what was on the comic book spinner racks in 1962! As seen in the DocuSeries videos above, the Silver Age of Comics was launched in mid 1950’s with he reboot of such classic DC Comics characters as The Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman and the Atom all of who served in the Justice League of America, which was a reboot, more or less, of the old Justice Society of America. Almost halfway through the Silver Age we were introduced to the Fantastic Four brought to us by what would soon be known as Marvel Comics. “And from that moment on, the world would never again be the same!!”
We hunted up covers from 1961 and 1962. These years were pivotal not only as the beginning of the Marvel Age , which was a large part of the Silver Age, while at the same time DC Comics was launching new titles off their successful Showcase and Brave and Bold introductions of the revised heroes mentioned above. So imagine, if you will, yourself as a kid in 1961. The only place comic books can be found is the corner drugstore or newsstand, or local mom and pop stores. That’s right, there is no comic book specialty shops, no massive chain book stores, no internet, iPhones, or home computers and no Amazon. Half the thrill of reading comic books, in this time, was hunting down your favorite titles!
Enjoy!

Project: NewMan #3 AND the Humants #3 will both be available soon from our Comics Store and the fine folks at IndyPlanet and DriveThru Comics.
Here, from our Archives Spotlight, enjoy the first postings of Project: NewMan and Humants exactly as they were 10 years back in June 2008. Keep in mind as you read, back in the day, we were posting a page everyday rather than weekly as we do now. So any references to “tomorrow,” was then and this is now. Rather than tomorrow, our next pages from 2008 will be posted next Friday. However, if yo don’t want to to wait, just keep reading. All the pages are there. We are just spotlighting what we’ve done here.
Coming Soon to the Archives Section! We will be adding in the postings for Mega Tales #1 featuring Tess, the Living Tesseract!
Alternatively, for an even more awesome comics reading goodness, go to our Comics Store and purchase the PDF for a measly buck! You can read the pdf right in your browser which is not nearly as limited as reading it on the web page! In addition to that, you can download the pdf to your computer or iDevice to read it whenever and wherever you like even if you don’t have an internet connection. But for now let’s go to the Way Back Machine 10 years ago…

Project: New Man 1 Page 16
It doesn’t seem to be getting any easier. How do we reason with those who have lost all reason and perspective on reality? War is a terrible thing and for those involved it may never end even after they have come home. Some learn how to deal with it while others need help. Too often the victors in war are also the victims. It’s important to realize that and give our men and women in military our full support whether we agree with the decisions to go to war or not.
Mark’s Remarks:
When I drew this up I really wanted the background to play a part in the story. I like super hero stories that take place in familiar settings, it adds to the reality of the storyline. Use of the railing in the mall was a great prop for perspective and continuity, especially on these standoff pages where there is not much action but a lot of tension. I think it gave a nice flow to the art in telling the story as it leads down to the heroes realization in the last panel. We’ve had clues, but now a bombshell is about to drop concerning our hero.
Any questions or comments? All are welcome.

Humants 1 Page 16
Shhh..now listen carefully, reader. Much is to be learned from this conversation between Devlin Delano and his chief lackey, Gregory Lawthers.
Mark’s Remarks: Here’s Freazie White, Jr.’s version of “talking heads.” In scripting this first issue of the Humants Freazie made good use of the conversation between the industrialist Devlin Delano and his chief gofer Gregory Lawthers to give us some vital exposition to the story. But fear not Action Addicts! Freazie will be bringing all you can stand in in just another page or two! Plus we’ll get to see the origin of the Humants main bad guy… Mageddon!
Any questions or comments? All are welcome.
