Of 9-11, Hurricane Ike, Humants & The Fortress Foundation
Thursday, September 11th, 2008
7 years ago today almost 3,000 everyday, ordinary people working 9-5, regular jobs died in the largest Terrorist Attack this country has ever seen. For them and most of us it started out just like any other day, rushing off to work, grabbing a cup of coffee, saying bye to family members and friends, fighting rush hour traffic, and all the usual day to day routines. I had just come up stairs to work in my home office that morning. My brother was already working and he called my attention to the TV. We saw a smoking hole in one of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. We discussed it and like the commentators we thought it a pilot error leading to a terrible accident. As we watched, the second plane hit. I will never forget that cold feeling as I realized what we were watching was no accident. That was a long, terrible day, one we will never forget. The only bright spot in it was the reports of acts of real heroes that emerged from the smoldering ruins of our shattered sense of security. The Heroes of 9-11: The firefighters, the police men, the passengers of the planes, and just average people who in spite of tremendous danger, injury and loss of life rose above it all and did things they never thought themselves capable of. They, above all else, will never be forgotten!
Hurricane Ike is now at Category 2 strength right out in the middle of the Gulf Of Mexico after it’s rampage through Cuba. It’s expected to be a Cat 3 by the time it makes landfall somewhere just south of Houston, Texas around 2 A.M. Saturday morning. Evacuations all along the coast have already begun. The only good news is there isn’t another storm anywhere on the radar right now.
The third and final page of the Legacy Communications Page from Humants #2 is up today. This also marks the last page of this issue to be followed by the Inside and Back covers. Originally Humants #2 was a 48 page book but since we’ve separated the New Man back up feature to it’s own title, as it was always meant to be, we’ve reduced this web version to 32 pages which is the format all our books follow. That gives you a page per day with one or two bonus pages, depending on the number of days in a given month, and it gives us a nice neat package if we go back to press with any of these classics. But it’s more likely we’ll collect the whole run in one handy, dandy Trade Paperback edition sometime next year. Keep your fingers crossed.
In Project New Man # 3 today, Dr Jonathan Thunderstorm, A.K.A. Chief Thunder reveals a little more info about the Thunderhawks and the Fortress Foundation. In case you are new here, Project: New Man is a partly secret joint venture of the U.S. Government and the Fortress Foundation, a private sector, non-profit, philanthropic organization dedicated to public defense and scientific research. The Fortress Fighters are the security team for the Foundation which is headquartered at the Moriah Building in downtown New Harbour city.
