Legacy Comics Publishing Status

Monday, September 8th, 2008

I just made inventory of our original artwork Sunday. Here’s what we have left from our stock of stories and art:

Project: New Man #3: We are on page 18 of this 32 page issue.

Project: New Man #4: We have pages 1-8 to start this issue. We will have 23 more NEW story pages plus the covers. These pages will conclude The Haunted Man story line originally plotted 16 years ago! It will feature the story by Freazie White, Jr. and myself with art by me, Mark Poe.

This will wrap up the New Man stories unless there is demand for more or we have an idea for a new story that will fit the New Man mythos. It also gives us 128 pages if we want to do a Project: New Man Trade Paperback of these stories. So we are not closing any doors here, all options are open and on the table.

Now for the Humant’s report.

Humants # 2: We on page 28 of 32 pages so we’re about to wrap this one up.

Humants # 3: We have everything we need here for 32 pages plus covers inside and out. All I have to do is a little production work.

Humants # 4: We have everything we need here for 32 pages plus covers inside and out. All I have to do is a little production work.

Humants # 5: We have 20 pages of story on this one. We need 12 more NEW pages plus the back cover.

Humants # 6: We may need to do some NEW page for this issue to tie up loose ends.

With that we will wrap up the Humants stories unless you demand more or we have an idea for a new Humants story. The total page count for the Humants title will be about 198 pages which will make for a great Humants Trade Paperback! So, again, we are not closing any doors here, all options are open and on the table.

All totaled, with our previous issues already in our web archives, this will give us over 300 pages of Legacy Comics online! That’s not counting a back-up features like Bearcat. Nor does it take tally of most of the pin-up art we’ve included in this blog! Neither does it count any of our Small Press work. That doesn’t include the work from Dimension Graphics we posted about the other day. With all that we’ll be over 400 pages on this site. WOW! I really did not realize we had done so much comic book related art!

After all this we will begin our new titles starting with Mega Tales.

Humants 2 Pg 29 Panel 1 & 2

A couple of great panels from today’s Humants # 2 update. Here’s a good example of why a young lady should never take a shortcut through a dark ally. Fortunately for Janeta Rodebud, Omnispawn is one of the good guys! 😉

New Man 3 Pg18 Panel 1

In Project: New Man # 3, So who or what does New Man see as he makes his way through the smoke and debris of the  Moriah Building.  I’ll give you some clues: it’s shiny, big and mean! Ah, heck, just click the image and head on over to Project: New Man and find out!

Humants 2 Pg 30 Panel 1

In Humants # 2 we started something we wanted to be a regular feature. It was the Legacy Communications Page which naturally was inspired by those Stan Lee Bullpen Bulletins of the 60’s and 70’s. We patterned a lot of the layout and the overall tone after several of the better Bullpen Bulletins we found going through our collection. We had a great time doing it and everyone at the conventions who came up to our tables seemed to get a reall kick out of it. Freazie and I had a great time putting it all together!

New Man 3 Pg19 Close-upA new chapter begins today in Project: New Man # 3.  Cyber-Tech isn’t gunning for New Man. No, he’s got a beef with the Thunder Hawks. In this chapter we see a little character development of Jonathan Thunderstorm, Thomas Jeffry McBride, and Percival Patton Parker. Christopher Torres makes his penciling debut!

When Freazie and I had the idea to put this web site together we really did not recall at the time just how much work we had amassed with Legacy Comics. Not to mention all the other comics work we had done. We thought we would put up the 3 issues we had published previously and move one. But we realized the stories in those early books were not concluded, so it seemed only fair to put out the unpublished issues as well, if we could find them! We look at this as the foundation for what’s to come. We may push back the release of our new title: Mega Tales a week or two to tie up some loose ends on the Humants and Project: New Man titles that were not taken care of before. But it’s all coming, so bear with us and we’ll get it all online for you.

Humants 2 Pg 31 Panel 2

I had a freak accident yesterday, unfortunately gaining super-powers was not the end result. 😉 Somehow while taking out the garbage, I pushed the bag down into the can which really already had too much in it. When I did, something punctured the bag and sliced my left thumb. I thought it may have been some broken glass, but my wife could not recall any glass in the garbage. So maybe it was the lid from one of the dog food cans. I don’t know but I got a deep cut out of it, probably enough to require some stitches. It was difficult to get it to stop bleeding. But I’ve got some of those Bandaids that pull a wound together so I should be fine. Even though it’s my left hand, and I’m right handed, I’m finding I have trouble typing and doing a lot of things that I normally do. It feels better today and hasn’t bled again since last night. So the moral of this story is, be careful with garbage. It’s more dangerous than you might think! 😉

In Humants # 2 shows page 2 of the Legacy Communications Page with an ad for Humants # 3 showing the original cover. After solicited orders from the distributors were low, I started looking around at other books on sale at  the time and thought maybe if we changed the cover and the logo it might stand out a bit better. Didn’t help that much. The orders were not much higher when we resolicited. You will see the original cover in Issue #3.

Project: New Man # 3.  Cyber-Tech comes face to face with the Thunder Hawks. We showcase the talents of Christopher Torres who penciled this and the next chapter. Chris did an awesome job and we would have asked him to do a lot more penciling had Legacy Continued. If memory serves me he might have also done some backgrounds on Humants # 3 or 4. Can’t remember which.New Man 3 Pg 20 Panel 2

Of 9-11, Hurricane Ike, Humants & The Fortress Foundation

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fd/National_Park_Service_9-11_Statue_of_Liberty_and_WTC_fire.jpg7 years ago today almost 3,000 everyday, ordinary people working 9-5, regular jobs died in the largest Terrorist Attack this country has ever seen. For them and most of us it started out just like any other day, rushing off to work, grabbing a cup of coffee, saying bye to family members and friends, fighting rush hour traffic, and all the usual day to day routines.  I had just come up stairs to work in my home office that morning. My brother was already working and he called my attention to the TV. We saw a smoking hole in one of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. We discussed it and like the commentators we thought it a pilot error leading to a terrible accident. As we watched, the second plane hit. I will never forget that cold feeling as I realized what we were watching was no accident. That was a long, terrible day, one we will never forget. The only bright spot in it was the reports of acts of real heroes that emerged from the smoldering ruins of our shattered sense of security. The Heroes of 9-11: The firefighters, the police men, the passengers of the planes, and just average people who in spite of tremendous danger, injury and loss of life rose above it all and did things they never thought themselves capable of. They, above all else, will never be forgotten!

ike mapHurricane Ike is now at Category 2 strength right out in the middle of the Gulf Of Mexico after it’s rampage through Cuba. It’s expected to be a Cat 3 by the time it makes landfall somewhere just south of Houston, Texas around 2 A.M. Saturday morning. Evacuations all along the coast have already begun. The only good news is there isn’t another storm anywhere on the radar right now.

Humants 2 Pg 32 Panel 1

The third and final page of the Legacy Communications Page from Humants #2 is up today. This also marks the last page of this issue to be followed by the Inside and Back covers. Originally Humants #2 was a 48 page book but since we’ve separated the New Man back up feature to it’s own title, as it was always meant to be, we’ve reduced this web version to 32 pages which is the format all our books follow. That gives you a page per day with one or two bonus pages, depending on the number of days in a given month, and it gives us a nice neat package if we go back to press with any of these classics. But it’s more likely we’ll collect the whole run in one handy, dandy Trade Paperback edition sometime next year. Keep your fingers crossed. 😉

In Project New Man # 3 today, Dr Jonathan Thunderstorm, A.K.A. Chief Thunder reveals a little more info about the Thunderhawks and the Fortress Foundation. In case you are new here, Project: New Man is a partly secret joint venture of the U.S. Government and the Fortress Foundation, a private sector, non-profit, philanthropic organization dedicated to public defense and scientific research. The Fortress Fighters are the security team for the Foundation which is headquartered at the Moriah Building in downtown New Harbour city. New Man 3 Pg 21 Panel 1

Hurricane Ike Radar

Hurricane Ike is gaining strength in the very warm water of the central Gulf of Mexico. Looking at the radar, the outer bands fill up the entire Gulf! It’s almost bigger than the state of Texas! In the next 24 hours, Ike could become a Category 3 or even a Cat 4 Hurricane. Landfall is expected somewhere around Galveston, Texas at about 1 A.M. Saturday morning which could bring 10 to 20 foot storm surges and winds in excess of 115 mph.

Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast residents were ordered to evacuate Wednesday and Thursday with more evacuations likely today. Houston could have heavy flooding and strong winds from Ike this afternoon and all day Saturday.

Hurricane Ike Radar 2Hurricane Ike is moving about 35 Miles Per Hour right now. Damage from a Monster Storm like this could be extensive but if  it slows down as it makes landfall the damage and flooding could be as bad as Katrina.

Humants 2 Inside Back Cover

Humants #2 is ending. We have the inside back cover with the “Next Issue” preview of the cover for Humants # 3 and a shot of the cover for Project New Man # 3 which is ongoing right now!

We are looking into offering printed copies of these books after the first of the year and possibly a collected Trade Paperback later in 2009. While we no longer have any copies of Project: New Man #1 and Humants #1 we do have a few of those rare, original 3,000 copy press run of Humants #2 . We will be offering autographed copies of those real soon. Watch for the announcement!

In Project New Man # 3: No, we didn’t forget our star. New Man is in the building and the action is about to begin!

Christopher Torres sent us a couple copies of pencil pages with New Man battling Cyber-Tech, and we hired him on the spot! I’ll get those scanned in soon and let you see them. There is not a lot of difference in the battle you are about to see and those two pages except the local was a warehouse setting and New Man was in full uniform and battle gear. Chris of course like nearly everyone at the time was heavily influenced by Jim Lee and Rob Liefield. This would have been their pre-Image Comics days when they were still doing X-Force and X-Men. Hmmm… didn’t Liefield do New Mutants too?

Hurricane Ike Devastates Gulf Coast! Humants & New Man Updates.

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

Hurricane Ike Motel

Hurricane Ike made landfall as a high Category 2 Hurricane, almost a Cat 3. Reports from the coast are not good. This could be worse than Katrina. Galveston, Texas‘s seawall was reported as having held up but right now, late Saturday morning, very sketchy details are available. Houston has a lot of flooding. Our hopes and prayers are with those that remained behind and those First Responders and Search and Rescue Teams in the area.

Hurricane Ike Beach House

The Louisiana Gulf Coast is reported not doing well either. Still it is early and the storm is still blowing at Category 1 strength. It may be a while before this one blows out.

Hurricane Ike Radar 3

We have the back  cover of Humants #2 today. This is one of two nice pin-ups of the Humants which Freazie White, Jr. did all by his lonesome for the original printing of Humants # 2. This one was originally page 33. Pretty cool, huh?

Humants 2 Back Cover

Guess what! You will be seeing Freazie take pencil in hand once again for the first time in 16 years when he finishes Humants # 5 and does Humants # 6. These two issues will resolve the current story line. And guess who will be inking those little jewels. Yep, little ol’ me, Mark Poe. Remember you heard it here first! So don’t go away, we’ve still got a lot of never before published 1992 Freazie Art for Humants #3 & 4 to see first!  🙂

For those sharp eyed fans out there, yep, I botched yesterday’s preview of the inside back cover for #2. That has been corrected now so you can go back and see what was suppose to be there now. We’ll use that Sojourner  Pin-up for the back cover of issue #3.

In Project New Man # 3: Yow! Things really heat up on page 23 of this issue. 😉 Yeah, that pun was intended.

Christopher Torres did a great job with the pencils of this issue and I really enjoyed inking them.

New Man Updates, But No Humants. Hurricane Ike Aftermath.

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

New Man 3 Pg 24 Panel 4

Cyber-Tech seems to be having problems with his cybernetic body. He had not counted on having to face New Man so soon. The Thunder hawks were his concern this day. Ebenezer Baal warned him not to confront them too soon, but in his eagerness for revenge and to prove himself to those who had previously shunned him, he has made a critical error.

New Man has the ability to manipulate a Unified Field which is composed of electrical, magnetic, and gravitational forces. It is the secret of his power and what invisibly augments his natural strength. Even though it protects him from such things as flame and bullets, he can still feel some of the pressure and heat.

Hurricane Ike Aftermath

Humants #2 ended yesterday with the outside back cover. There is no Humants update today. Tomorrow  Humants # 3 begins!

Hurricane Ike, as you can see from those few AP photos, was as bad as we feared. 140,000 people may have stayed behind to ride out the storm. A massive Search and Rescue Operation is underway now. One lady interviewed by reporters, who has ridden out several Hurricanes and stayed for this one as well, said this one is the worse she has ever been in.

Ike’s effects were not limited to the the Gulf Coast but made it way inland and caused wide spread flooding. Rain from the storm is still causing flooding today, even after being downgraded to a Tropical Depression, as far away as Illinois! Wind has caused and still is causing damage as well. Here in North Alabama our power is blinking on and off as we have winds at 25 M.P.H. and gusts up to 35!

Hurricane Ike Aftermath

Gas prices have soared all over the nation! I was out yesterday and saw local prices over $4 per gallon in a lot of places and one place had over $5 per gallon. Some of that is retailers and maybe even distributors gouging the public. I hope the government fines them heavily, but even so we won’t get a refund. I got my tanked topped off before it went up hoping it won’t last more than a few days. I’m limiting my travel as much as possible to stretch it out as long as I can. They say Refineries may be down for as much as 9 days!

All we can do is hang in there and hope we don’t have any more storms like this.
