Project: New Man 2 Page 11
Now we start with The Haunted Man Chapter 2: The Dream Sequence. A clever little, time honored devise we employed to tell New Man’s origin tale. We start out in Prison! The art is dark and moody and as the pages unfold we see a progression of lightening up in the pages to follow. Meet David “Killer” Kane who would one day becomes New Man! Yep! That’s him in his jail cell!
Mark’s Remarks: I can only think of one. That is, one other hero who was a convict before he was a hero. Luke Cage, formerly called Power Man is whom I speak of. So I think it’s safe to say New Man is one of the few, and possibly only one of two. I thought this was important to the character. I wanted to show a guy who was guilty as sin, who should by all rights live and die as a villain, but who turns completely around to become a hero. It’s the concept of the second chance.
Freazie White, Jr. does a convincing job with the character development. I think the way he writes the script and gradually shows David “Killer” Kane begin to soften and change is realistic. Freazie also added another dimension, that of David being a victim as well as a villain. But I best not give away anymore we’re still on page 11!
