Project: New Man 2 Page 7
ow that we’re back on track… Was it disaster averted by some seeming Divine miracle, or did New Man just reach out with the power of the Unified Field in a way he had not previously utilized it? Well, since our hero is not too interested in analyzing it right now we won’t either.
How many times have you ever seen this happen in comics? Usually the henchmen are throw away characters. This time one not only got the personal attention of the hero, the hero actually saved his life.
Mark’s Remarks: Hello, Mr Zipatone! Since these stories were to be printed as black and white books we wanted to give the line art as much help as we could. Without color we at least needed some contrast. We may have gone a little overboard with applying screens. Back then I did not have a computer or PhotoShop to add in adding special effects. So the use of cut and paste screens from the local office/art supply store had to do. These were usually produced by Zipatone or one of their imitators. I can’t remember right now if Zipatone was the brand name or the company name. They usually came in 12 x 18 inch sheets. These were sticker like, translucent material to be placed over the art on a light box and using an Xacto knife we would cut along the area to be screened then lift it off the application paper and stick on the area desired. I say “we” because to do the whole book I often enlisted the aid of anyone I could find like family, friends, the mail man, whoever! The task of doing a 32 page book was time consuming and often tedious to say the least.
