Well, folks, with this back cover, that’s a wrap for issue #5 of the Humants. This art was some more new art by Mark Poe which was done to finish up the Bearcat back up we just read to fill out 32 pages worth of material for Humants # 5. Mark tried to keep his art a little looser to somewhat match what Mark Alan Lester did the 1st 8 pages. However, this was far more than a filler story, as it introduced a character, Brim the Troll, which will become an important character in the new series both in Humants and Project: New Man.

That also wraps up all the published and unpublished comics we have for Legacy Comics except for a few odds and ends, a short lived Humants comic strip that ran in 5-6 issues of the Comics Buyers Guide and some random images, which we’ll get around too eventually when we find the appropriate spot for them.

It’s been fun re-reading and re-packaging these for a webcomics audience. To us, getting these comics  back in circulation is a major milestone after being out of the field for 16 years but it’s minor compared to what’s ahead! There is a few corrections here and there we will do before we get these ready to publish as Trade Paperbacks. We’ll alert you to the changes in the archives as we get to them as well as when the TPB’s go on sale.

We hope you have enjoyed our little trip down memory lane in re-presenting this work which was done in the early 1990′s. We also hope you will stick around for the re-launch of the series in a few months, and in the meantime starting in March be here for the premier of Mega Tales #1 which starting off will feature some of our re-packaged Dimension Graphics comics from the late ’80′s. Then soon after for the debut of the ALL-NEW Epoch 2012 A.D., The Precession of the Equinoxes. We’ll be waiting for you!

Next Issue? What will happen to Vic Torrent and Moniel Khonte? What’s the Humants next move now that they are settled into their renovated warehouse H.Q.? How does the government tie into all this? These are a few of the questions left unanswered at this point in the Humants saga. But such is the state of a continuous serial comic magazine.

When we do resume the story we will be coming full forward from 1993 to the present. Almost 20 years have passed and change has come! It will be interesting, suspenseful, action packed and in full color this go around. So stay tuned to the announcements on the MCG Daily Blog for the relaunch date!

And so it ends! Brimm may well have been thinking of pounding Bearcat into the sidewalk in panel 2, but something or rather someone get’s his attention. It seems Emanuel Reyes has a guardian angel by the name of New Man. Brimm, as big and strong as he is, is taken aback by the sight of a guy floating just a few feet away with a flaming aura, flaming hair and flashing eyes! He may well have heard of New Man, as he said, but not heard of his recent Quantum Leap change which we all know just happened in the pages of Project: New Man # 4.

How’s this for an ending to a Super Hero tale? The two adversaries don’t fight, they debate and in the end the villain is persuaded, with some visual help, to accept aid and walk away from the crime. No doubt New Man stays and helps the police, once they arrive, clean up after Bearcat and Brimm leave.

But wait! There’s more! We have the inside back cover, tomorrow, and the back cover, Monday, for Humants #5 to show which will wrap up this issue!

The origin of Brimm the Troll! We warned you this was going to be an offbeat tale. How often have you seen the hero of the story merely debate the villain? But so far, we’ve yet to see a punch thrown. But will the trend continue? We still have one more page to go and this one features a bit of a surprise ending. Sorry to be such a tease, but we can’t help it!

You sharp eyed Mega Maniacs already spied the art change which occured on page 29. This tale has an amazing history and it is a sheer wonder and triumph that it finally has been published. We’ll wait until tomorrow to tell you how this one came to be. We don’t want to distract you right now before the conclusion. Honest!

Hmmm… well, Bearcat isn’t squashed yet.

So Brimm was involved in the incident at the Estate Towers Building and was transformed into a Renegade Humant along with the other 4 in Johnathan Tower’s office at the hands of Mageddon. Unknown to Mageddon there is a 5th Renegade running around loose! Whoa! This cannot be good!

But there’s something different about this guy. For one thing he’s actually talking to Bearcat rather than pounding on him. He’s actually trying to reason with him and explain his actions while kidding around with our hero. How could this be? Could Mageddon actually have transformed someone into a Humant who isn’t evil. But then isn’t Brimm still subject to Mageddon’s will and the Dark Lord of the Hecati siphoning off energy from him like a cosmic vampire? Lot’s of question with this one, folks. All in due time!

Bearcat has survived this night so far! He messed up on his mask modifications an almost suffocated. He missed the ledge when swinging from one building to another. He almost fell off the roof when the wall of the bank was exploded and now this!

Meet Brimm! He’s a Humant Troll. So far Bearcat has provided some amusment for the 7 foot tall 950 pound mountain of muscle but how long do you think he will be able to keep that up before the Troll decides to squash him like a bug and move on? We’ll see starting tomorrow!

Yep, it was an explosion! Something is definitely going down on the street level in that bank building! Emanuel just lowers himself down the side of the building via his retractable cable. As he get’s closer, even with Bearcat’s special mask/helmet equipped with powerful lenses options can’t pierce the smoke.

Wait a minute…someone is emerging from the smoke…it’s… WHOA! That ain’t human! What is it saying? Brimm? That’s his name? I have a feeling Bearcat may be wishing he had stayed at home and went to bed early!

With all his equipment, gadgets, and armor how can he possibly stand up against something like that?! And what is it and where did it come from? And “gulp!” are there any more in there? We’ll have to wait until Monday to find out the answer to all these questions! Geeze! Told ya it was going to get worse!

Well, just when you think maybe Bearcat is going to get a handle on this heroing business, he nearly falls off a building! To be fair he has some help in that department, as the whole neighborhood seems to be shaking as if from an earth tremor! Could it be some kind of explosion nearby? Could be. But as we will see on the next page it is not from any ordinary source! Now Bearcat has already had one of those days… Could things get any worse for Emanuel? You bet it can! Hang around and watch!

Freazie White Jr. did a great job with the script on this little back up story. He added a lot of character development for Bearcat. After reading this tale and referring back to his previous appearances in Project: New Man, it’s easy to pin point just where Bearcat is coming from. Orphaned at an early age, raised by extended family in low rent neighborhoods, he clearly has not had the advantages some others have. Despite all that has been against him, rather than cave into his bad breaks, he has continually used his setbacks as tools to motivate him to move forward and improve his circumstance. Even lack of confidence and low self-esteem has driven him to push himself harder, to be better, and do more. He has seen first hand, winning life’s battles is not an overnight success, it’s a process of the journey. ’nuff said!

Ain’t that Bearcat something! He doesn’t even need a villain to tackle, he’s his own worst enemy!

Well, the bright side of this is: A) It’s dark and most likely no one saw him, unless of course they heard him scream. B) Better to test the new modifications this way rather than against a real threat, like what’s coming in another page or so. C) Live and learn! After a mistake of this magnitude, Emanuel is sure not to pull another bonehead stunt like this…maybe.

Hey! We promised you this was going to be a little offbeat and we’re only halfway through the tale! Stay tuned, it get’s more offbeat yet!

It’s just your typical Super-hero outing, right? The good guy is testing out his new uniform modifications and just going through the paces with his grappling hook and line from rooftop to roof top, right? Come now, dear reader, in the short-time we’ve known Emanuel Reyes and his costumed alter-ego Bearcat, surely by now you realize nothing is ever just routine for him! As brilliant an inventor he is, as athletic as he is is just like when modifying his new mask, Emanuel tends to get… distracted, lost in his own thoughts. Yep, and this time could be more costly than the previous lapses!

How about the art by Mark Alan Lester? Isn’t he great? Some of his work seems to have a bit of John Buscema influence but it stands on it’s own unique ground! Great job Mark!
